Hello!
My name is Robin and I grew up here just a couple miles from the restaurant and love this area. My mother Rosie was from Minnesota where the family had a corn farm before moving to Wisconsin. So I grew up learning to eat what was fresh and canning was important to have the best even in off season.
In 1985 I married a Sailor from the East Coast who was born and raised on a five gerneration Dairy farm, thats why you'll see things like a Lobster Roll or Stuffed Quahog on our menu. And you guessed it, that's how I came to be The Farmer's Wife!
We both have a passion for traveling the Gulf Coast so you'll see things like Gumbo on the menu too.
We love to eat, we love to cook, we love to entertain and we want to bring back the family dinner.
To us
Local means Wisconsin made/grown and this is so important to us at The Farmer's Wife. I would say at least 95% of our product comes from right here in Wisconsin, keeping jobs in Wisconsin and keeping our economy growing that's what it is all about.
What does
Sustainable
mean to us at The Farmer's Wife?
There is no legal definition of ‘sustainable food,’ although some aspects, such as the terms ‘organic’ or ‘Fairtrade’, are clearly defined. Our working definition is that sustainable food should be produced, processed and traded in ways that:
Contribute to thriving local economies and sustainable livelihoods – both in the US and, in the case of imported products like Coffee, in producer countries;
Protect the diversity of both plants and animals (and the welfare of farmed and wild species like lobster), and avoid damaging natural resources and contributing to climate change;
Provide social benefits, such as good quality food, safe and healthy products, and educational opportunities
Delicious
is food that makes you go to your happy place and the only word you can say is yummmm!
You guessed it, The Farmer's Wife is; Local, Sustainable and Delicious
